MARRIAGE REJOICINGS: On Tuesday at St. Martin’s Church, Mr. Jno W. Penn, of Camrose House, second son of the late Col. Penn, who distinguished himself in the Abyssinnian campaign, was united to Miss Nina Bowen, second daughter of Mr. T. Webb Bowen, Chief Constable for Pembrokeshire. Prior to the ceremony a deputation of the tenantry of the Camrose Estate waited on Mr. Penn, and presented him with a handsome salver and an address on vellum.
From an early hour, the entrance gate to the church was thronged with an eager crowd of lookers-on. Near to the gate, an arch had been erected, with mottoes appropriate to the occasion. There was also a plentiful display of bunting in the vicinity of the church and neighbourhood. The bride was dressed in a rich duchesse sabin satin, with brocaded body and train, wreath of orange blossoms, and tulle veil. The Misses Penn (3), sisters of the bridegroom; and Miss Bowen, cousin of the bride, were attired in dresses composed of grenal plush and pink turah satin, with hats to match. The bride was given away by her father. The ceremony was performed by the vicar, The Rev. I.H. Popplewell.
On emerging from the church, the bells of St. Martin’s rang out a merry peal, the strain being re-echoed by the peals of the other churches in the town, cannons being at the same time, fired. Plentiful showers of rice fell on the happy couple as they proceeded to their carriage. Mr. and Mrs. Penn afterwards left for Cheltenham en route to Scotland.
